Object Lesson -Sealable Plastic Baggy

sealable-baggy-1Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 web

However God’s firm foundation stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.” 2 Timothy 2:19 web

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A sealable plastic bag to keep new things fresh and ready to be eaten or used is very handy. One of these may be able to serve as a way of teaching children some concepts of the Bible that are not so tangible for them to understand. Try asking them if they would like you to put a snack into the bag and seal it up if it were all old and stale or even moldy. No! That would not be good. We want new and fresh snacks put into the bag and sealed to stay clean and fresh, ready to eat. You don’t want it to get dirty, dry out, or get stale.
Now the kids understand a tangible thing about what they want for their snacks and how a sealable plastic bag serves the purpose nicely. Now you may try applying the spiritual lesson. Like how we want our snack to be new and stay clean and fresh, God wants us to become a new creation and stay clean and fresh. That means He wants us to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior to forgive us of all the bad things we do, then let Him help us to think and behave differently. Such as treating each other the way we would want others to treat us. Talking to God, spending time reading the Bible, and attending church help us to stay clean and fresh for God to use us. He enjoys using us to help others.
Heart Shaped Painted Rock Object Lesson
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'” Matthew 22:37 web
I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11 web
Don’t let kindness and truth forsake you. Bind them around your neck.
Write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man. Proverbs 3:3-4 web
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Find a rock in the basic shape of a heart, paint it red, and ta-dah!! You have an object lesson that will cover many various topics and Bible verses. Depending on the Bible version, the word heart appears about 600 to 800 times. This is definitely a fantastic object lesson with many possibilities.

Consider teaching the children about the difference between the two hearts often talked about: the physical pump that God so wonderfully created us with to pump blood around in our body, and the heart that is the seat of our emotions.

God wants us to love Him with everything we’ve got. The Bible tells us to hide God’s word in our heart. And to write kindness and truth on the tablet or our heart. These are metaphors that give children and adults a visual reminder of how important these things are for us. We should spend time with God and in the Bible every day. Which helps us to make good choices. Such as not do bad things that may hurt God, people, or ourselves. Being kind and truthful from our very heart will help us to have favor with both God and man.

Honey Object Lesson

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. Proverbs 16:24 web

How sweet are your promises [words] to my taste, more than honey to my mouth! Psalm 119:103 web

Honey is a very sweet object lesson. It has been used as such for a very long time. When a child is introduced to the Bible and its fantastic stories and great wisdom, it should coincide with sweetness and fun. Joy should be at the heart of the learning experience. Little children may focus more on the sweet snacks and fun of the festivities. But as time goes on, the seeds planted in their heart and soul should grow and blossom. They should learn how God’s words and promises are sweet and good for us.

God loves us more than we can even imagine. He has given us a wonderful gift, the Bible. In it, He explains how we may have a wonderful relationship with Him. Learn and teach how sweet it can be to our heart, soul, strength, and mind when we have a relationship with Him and study His word. Spend time with God and His Word the Bible every day.

[Please check with parents before giving children honey. Some are allergic to honey. Have them help decide on a good substitute for their child.]

Wind Spinner Christian Object Lesson

Wind Spinner Wheel - 1Description: a Colorful lightweight wheel that responds to wind or air movement by rotating or spinning like a wheel.

What it does: it responds to movement of air by spinning. It is often used to decorate a yard or as a toy for children to play with while running around with it or blowing on it to make it spin.

Brainstorm: Respond, sensitive, move, turn, spin, rotate, blow, air, pretty, beautiful, colorful, feel, listen, slightest whisper, and small still voice.

Scripture: Revelation 3:22, Matthew 11:15; 13:9, Mark 4:9 “He who has ears, let him hear.” 1 Kings 19:12, John 14:6, and 10:27.

Example Message: Look at this wind spinner. It spins so easily when blown. It is sensitive to the slightest little movement of air. Can you see the air moving it? We can see the effect of the wind when it spins. Jesus said that His Father was going to send the Holy Spirit to teach and help them remember the things that He had said. There is a story about Elijah, the powerful prophet of God. From him, we learn that God speaks to us using a still quiet voice. We have to listen carefully. Being sensitive like this spinner is sensitive to the slightest movement of air (blow on it lightly). Jesus often said, “He who has ears, let him hear.” He was not only talking about our physical ears, He was saying that we should believe, accept, and understand the things that He said. Sometimes it was very difficult for some people to accept and believe Jesus. They did not always want to do what Jesus said. But those who listened and obeyed were like this colorful wind spinner. It responds to the slightest movement of air.

It makes me think of how we should be in the hand of God, listening carefully. Responding to His direction. Doing as He wishes. Others will be able to see that we are directed by God. Sensitively listening, He will give us opportunities beyond our wildest imagination. He will guide us to have an influence in the lives of people, helping them to know God.

(Note: You may wish to encourage the children to read and study the Bible, which is a great way to make sure we are listening to the voice of God. He will never contradict the Bible. Also, listen to their parents, teachers and pastors. Because God uses them to help the kids learn to understand the Bible, how to know God’s voice, and His impressions on their minds and hearts.)

Clip Christian Object Lesson

Clip for Object Lesson - 1Description: it is made of a bright colored plastic, has a magnet and a spring that applies pressure to keep the grabby part closed. It has a hinge so the grabby part can be opened and allowed to close by squeezing on the handle. It is wide.

What it does: the grabby part opens and closes when the handle is squeezed and released. It holds onto things, keeps bags closed, and can be hung magnetically to a metal surface, such as a refrigerator.

Brainstorm: The idea of shutting things. For example, the angel came and shut the lion’s mouths so they could not eat Daniel (6:22). It holds onto things. For example, 1 Thessalonians 5:21 says, “Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.” Deuteronomy 10:20 says, “Cling to God.” Hebrews 4:14 says, “Hold onto our confession.” Hebrews 10:23 says, “Hold onto our hope that we have confessed without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” Philippians 3:12 says that “Paul grabs ahold of—” and 1 Timothy 6:12 tells us to, “Grab onto eternal life—confession”

Bible Verses: Daniel 6, 1 Thessalonians 5:21, Hebrews 10:23

Example Message: I have a fun little object. What is it? Yes, it is a clip. What does a clip do? It clamps onto things and does not let go. It holds things secure (show them how it holds onto things, such as your fingers or shirt sleeve). This reminds me of a great story in the Bible when an angel came and closed lion’s mouths. Do you know that story? It was the story of Daniel when he was cast into the lion’s den. Why was he thrown into the lion’s den? Because he did not “let go” of his good habit of praying to God three times a day when some evil leaders made it illegal to pray to God. The Bible tells us that we should examine things carefully and to hold onto the good things (1 Thess. 5:21). Talking to God was and still is a good thing for us to do. We should “hang onto it” and keep doing it. The Bible tells us that we should “hold onto” the hope that we have confessed without wavering because God made a promise to us. And He never breaks a promise (Hebrews 10:23). What is our greatest hope? (That God forgives us when we accept Jesus, His Son, as our Lord and Savior. Then we can go to heaven one day to be with Him.) What are some good things that we should hold onto? (Beliefs, dreams, our calling, all things Bible; such as reading, studying, memorizing, and meditating. Fruit of the Spirit, obedience, etc.)

Combination Lock Christian Object Lesson

Combination Lock  - 1

Description: Shiny metal, metal clasp loop thingy, round, flat, black dial with white marks and numbers, a handle on the dial.

What it does: The dial turns clockwise and counterclockwise. And with the right combination of three numbers it opens. It locks and unlocks, tight and secure.

Brainstorm: Three things needed. Many lists of three things. Lock things in a locker. Lock things in your head, heart, and soul. Keep it safe. List of three; lock, guard, and safe. Ready to use! Powerful things are locked away and ready to be used by those with the right combination.

Bible verse: 1 Corinthians 13:13 “So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” (ESV)

Example Message: What is this? (Hold it in your hand so only a part of the back can be seen.) It is shiny. (Show a little more until they figure it out.) Yes, it is a combination lock. The black dial with white numbers turns. If you know what numbers to stop on, you can unlock it. These generally have a combination of three numbers. You can use these to lock up your precious things. But only if you know the code. And you wouldn’t want to forget the code. Then you wouldn’t be able to unlock it to get your things.

Are there important things in your head or heart to keep safe? Yes! You keep many marvelous things in your head and heart. There is a Bible verse that says (read the verse) in 1 Corinthians 13:13. You should keep faith, hope and love safe. And your heart, mind and soul are very important, too. This lock is meant to keep others out. But when you have the right combination you can open it and get what you want.

What if you were a superhero? You might have very powerful things locked inside. You would need to learn how to use the special things, as well as when, why and how. Faith, hope, and love are powerful things that God has given us. If you learn to use them correctly you could be God’s superhero. You could show others how they can have faith and hope. And how God loves them more than they can even imagine. Can you think of someone that may need one of these three things? Be sure to ask your parent’s advice.

Metal Puzzle

Metal Puzzle - 2Metal Puzzle - 1Description: two bent rods of metal that are linked together.

What they do: when they are linked together, it is difficult to figure out how to separate them. They make us wonder, think, and experiment, until the solution is discovered. If they are not linked together, they do not serve their purpose.

Bible Verses: James 1:5-8 and 3:17.

Sample Message: I have a fun trinket here. What do you think it is? It is a metal puzzle. There are two pieces. The object is to separate them. Some are very difficult and others are easier. What would help me separate them? Would a hammer help? Yes, but what would help me do it the intended way?

What about wisdom? Wisdom is to have experience and to know how things work. Or, being able to think; if I do such and such, this or that will likely happen, either good or bad.

What is a good way to acquire wisdom? The Bible tells us in James, “If you lack wisdom, you should ask God.” God loves to give us wisdom. It also says, “Ask without doubting.” Instead, we should believe in God. He will give us a lot of wisdom. It says, “The one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is tossed back and forth by the wind.” And, “Anyone who doubts is a double-minded person.” (Hold the two pieces of the puzzle up by your head on each side.) If these metal pieces are not together, they do not serve their purpose. Neither does a double-minded person.

We should ask God for wisdom. Let’s not doubt, but believe God. Then, he will help us discover what we must do to work out our puzzles or challenges of life. Plus, wisdom will help us be all these good things that are listed in James 3:17. (Read the verse.)
